That nagging feeling when the PM comes around…. Is he/she going to ask for the latest status again? What if he/she was able to access info that could tell it “out of the box”, meaning Git, it would have bean a releafe. Fast. No questions.
It is actually possible. Even for mainframers. If your company have migrated and taken modern mainframe tools into use, like IDz or VS Code and store and maintain source code in GitLab or GitHub – you can easily provide them with fresh information using Git-APIs. Of course PMs could login to Git themselves, but I doubt it is as easy for them to navigate inside a Git gui – as it is for the developers.
We know companies using a GIT, and we have created backend-APIs and frontend user-iterfaces uring React that populates updated information from a Git. For example infomation regarding:
- Projects
- Branches
- Commits
- Merges
- Tags
- Users
If this is not enough, access to hundreds of APIs are available. At least in GitHub and GitLab.
